Unveiling of the four winners of the 2018 Epiderma Aesthetics Scholarship
The Epiderma Aesthetics Scholarship, unique to the industry, is being awarded for the 10th consecutive year to acknowledge the personal achievement and professional motivation of four new recruits.
The four 2018 recipients are:
> Alexandra Pruneau from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, holds a vocational diploma in aesthetics at the École professionnelle des métiers de Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu
> Caroline Gallant from Châteauguay, student, SSVD in aesthetics at the École de formation professionnelle de Châteauguay
> Kristina Heebner from Gatineau, student, SSVD in aesthetics at the Collège La Cité d’Ottawa
> Shafiqa Niaz from Laval, student, SSVD in aesthetics at the Collège Inter-Dec de Montréal
In addition to an employment opportunity at Epiderma when they graduate, scholarship winners receive a bursary of more than $3,500 which includes:
> $1,250 in cash
> A one-day, clinic observation placement;
> The full line of Epiderma BIO products
> A underarm laser hair removal package
> A microdermabrasion treatment.
The 2018 Epiderma Scholarship selection committee was composed of Sonia Proulx, Director of Human Resources at Epiderma, Julie Lalonde Longueuil Clinic Director and Vicky Roy and Vicky Roy, Vaudreuil Clinic Technician.

A few words about the award recipients
With plenty of joy and energy, Alexandra Pruneau loves communicating with people. After several professional detours, it was her passion for manicures, which she discovered as she started high school, that finally propelled her into cosmetic care. Organized and meticulous, she now feels perfectly in her element and looks forward to being able to plan and offer full days of care, with personalized attention to her clients, which she believes makes all the difference. With a professional degree in aesthetic care, as well as training as a nail technician, Alexandra is preparing to further expand her knowledge through training in electric hair removal, photoepilation and possibly eyelash extensions to better serve her clients. Through the Epiderma Scholarship, Alexandra plans to get into business and build her own aesthetic salon in her new apartment.
With a bachelor’s in Public Relations, Caroline Gallant has always worked for others. With a passion for public contact, she first gained professional experience in the restaurant and retail trade. However, this initial career momentum was unfortunately the result of pressure from her entourage. After careful reflection, Caroline decided to follow her intuition and continue her passion for aesthetics care. Her message is simple; when you follow your heart, the joy of living, happiness and trust are all present. Through her Epiderma Scholarship, Caroline hopes to inspire all women to pursue their craziest dreams, never to doubt themselves, and to feel beautiful, strong and confident. Her deep compassion, humour and communicative smile will undoubtedly be a major asset in her promising career in cosmetics care. Caroline will begin her career at the Epiderma Clinic in Longueuil once she completes her training in July.
Kristina Heebner is fascinated by skin and passionate about the scientific aspect of care. One of her main objectives is to understand the impacts of lifestyles, daily habits and diet on skin’s health. Absolutely amazed by the technology and treatments available on the market, influencing the healing, aging and skin regeneration process, she also wants to explore the field of cosmetology. Incredibly curious, Kristina wants to learn more about the properties and functions of the many active ingredients used in the production of aesthetic products. Budding chemist and gardening enthusiast, the Epiderma Scholarship will certainly allow Kristina to expand her knowledge and continue to make her own skin care products, among other things.
Shafiqa Niaz was born in Pakistan in a society where women are generally thrust into the background. Promised into an arranged marriage and then rejected by her husband because of the female sex of the child she was going to bring into the world, Shafiqa is very familiar with the hidden implications of the female condition as well as the power well-deserved aesthetic care can offer. First and foremost, it was when she was employed at a beauty salon in Pakistan that she slowly regained her taste for life. It was once she was in Canada, during her training in cosmetics care, together with the women who supported her, that she finally realized her full potential. With cosmetic care, Shafiqa was able to chart her way and find her voice. Helping women feel strong and confident is not only a vocation, but a true liberation.
The Epiderma Scholarship
To qualify for the Epiderma Scholarship, students must be registered full-time in a vocational esthetics or electrolysis program delivered at a secondary school accredited by the Quebec or Ontario departments of education. To apply, applicants simply complete the scholarship application available at the Epiderma site and attach all of the required documentation, including a 250-word essay on why they are interested in the aesthetics field.
The Epiderma network devotes a lot of energy to training its staff. The company’s training program consists of two weeks of practical and theoretical courses, two weeks of intensive supervised instruction in a clinic, and continuing education sessions that each network technician is required to take once a year.
