1. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) hair removal is a form of laser hair removal.
FALSE – IPL devices emit a broad spectrum of white light composed of multiple wavelengths. This light is filtered to isolate specific wavelengths during treatment, which may reduce overall effectiveness compared to laser technology.
2. Laser treatments can effectively remove blonde or light red hair.
FALSE – Neither laser nor IPL can effectively treat blonde or light red hair. These technologies target melanin, the dark pigment responsible for hair color.
3. Laser hair removal is not recommended during the summer.
FALSE – In sunny climates, patients undergo laser treatments year-round. However, proper sun precautions are essential. Protect your skin with high-protection sunscreen (SPF 50+), avoid direct sun exposure, and follow professional recommendations tailored to your skin type.
4. IPL is a faster, more affordable “permanent” hair removal solution than laser.
FALSE – While IPL sessions may be slightly shorter because they cover larger areas, the technology is generally less effective. More sessions are typically required, and results are not permanent. In many cases, laser treatments prove more cost-effective over time.
5. Laser hair removal is effective from the first session.
TRUE – On average, patients may observe a 15% to 25% reduction in hair after the first session, and up to 80% reduction after 5 to 6 sessions. By comparison, IPL typically requires 12 to 13 sessions to achieve approximately 65% to 70% reduction.
